Paradiski lets you ski its new 425km of pistes on 17th December

Paradiski, the huge ski area in the French Alps that incorporates la Plagne, les Arcs and Peisey, and is home to the enormous cable car, the Vanoise Express, opened for business on Saturday the 17th December at 9am.

Now that they are fully open in time for the Christmas season, Paradiski have confirmed that the entire 425km of pistes is available to skiers, all due the recent heavy snow fall that have resulted in perfect winter snow conditions.

The whole domain underwent one last final check before it opened its doors; the tracks were beaconed, any residual damage that was found was rectified, and the mechanical equipment was given a last once over.

With over 70% of Paradiski situated above 2000m, it offers the ideal altitude to make the most of the winter snow conditions [at the moment temperatures are averaging 0 degrees during the day, dropping to minus figures during the night]. At 1200 metres, all activities will be accessible thanks to the recent heavy snowfall.

Eight years after its creation, Paradiski – which connects the stations of Les Arcs, Peisey-Vallandry and La Plagne – houses more and more holiday makers from France and beyond. For this winter 2011/2012, Paradiski has invested 21,7 million Euro for the construction of infrastructure, replacement of equipment and reinvestment and expansion of equipment for cultivating the snow.

On the morning of the 17th December Christmas holiday makers will take to the slopes to enjoy a range of snowsports.

New ski train service to Savoie

Ski property owners should rejoice given that London will now offer a new ski train service that will transport skiers from London to Savoie, which will open in December of this year. The ride only takes seven hours and returns began at £149.

CEO for Findhomeabroad FRANCE, David Olsson, stated that with the current state of the flight industry (which has suffered through increases in security, strikes, delays, and the ash cloud) the option to take a train to a French Alps ski resort is very appealing. He added that those who are looking for a greener alternative than flying will find it on the new train transport.

French and Austrian summer ski resorts disappearing

Ski resorts in Austria that used to be one of the prime locations for summer skiing are starting to slowly decay, with one of the largest resorts in Austria, the Zolden, announcing that this will be the last summer that it is open for summer glacier skiing.

Throughout the greater part of the nineties there were around 40 ski stations in Zolden, all of which served tourists in the summer. However, today there are less than half of these ski stations still open for summer skiing due to the decrease in viable glacial runs for alpine skiing during the summer, due to global warming.

French ski resorts are facing the same problem as the country, which was once predominantly known for offering alpine skiing year round, is announcing that many summer ski resorts will close their doors.

Among the top resorts that will no longer offer summer skiers refuge are La-Plagne, Val Thorens, and Alp d’Juez. Those planning to travel to another resort in France for summer skiing should be aware that many have changed their summer schedules.

Thus, the Tignes resort which normally stayed open from spring into summer will not only offer summer skiing in 2010 from the middle part of June through late August. Skiing will also be open for half the month during the months of May and September in Tignes.

The La Plagne and Les Arcs French ski resorts are able to offer a great range of mountains and large selection of skiing areas for those who want to take a holiday in Europe and more specifically France.

Les Arcs has the same amount of excellent slopes to offer visitors with plenty of on and off-piste paths for the adventurous and those who prefer marked trails. Those looking for a challenge often head down the Aigulle Rouge which is not only one of the most challenging areas to ski, but also the start of one of the largest French slopes.

Spring is ideal for French ski trips
