It is well known as a fantastic destination for your ski holiday, though there are other well-deserving alternatives in France.

Courchevel ranked eight places ahead of Chamonix, coming in at 10^th out of the 50 best places to ski this Winter, in an article by the same name printed in the Independent. Their first place destination was Les Gets, mostly due to their instructors, but also because of its cuteness factor.

If France is your place of passion for skiing, there are a multitude of options. For example, Sauze d’Oulx boasts over 350km of trails for skiing. It is a party-ski-party place, with the string of dance clubs, British and Irish pubs, and wine and cocktail bars.

Next in line for your consideration is Val d’Isere, with skiing at high altitudes of well over 3200 meters and more than 95 lifts. It is the family resort, hosting kindergartens, ski schools, ski clubs, and après skiing. The “Fun Family Fondue” proves it has a relaxed atmosphere, but it is also snazzy, with its three-course meals and afternoon tea. The price per person is just £389.

We cannot leave out the details of Courchevel or Chamonix, though. The former has multiple levels, linked together into cute villages, ice skating, ski-do, tobogganing, ice climbing, super powder for every ski skill, and a hot nightlife.

Chamonix hosts the Hotel Mont Blanc as the world’s best ski resort. It is alpine and sits on the edge of Chaminox’ nightlife and 100 restaurants. The advanced and intermediate skiing is the best in France and perhaps throughout Europe as well.

At Chamonix around 90% of all the ski areas are at altitudes above 2000m, which allows most trails to stay open and skiable well into the late spring.  In fact, the trails of the Grands Montets which surround the Chamonix resort offer piste heights of 3300m, which is why annually Chamonix is the last ski resort to close with a final ski date of May 9^th.

Up in the mountains, every April shower brings fresh powder not rain, so before you put your skis away consider making it out for one last ski holiday.  In fact, spring is one of the best times to experience Chamonix due to its 20km Vallee Blanche piste and many backcountry trails that take adventurous skiers all around the valley area.

Those who do not have a lot of ski experience or families with small children also find that spring is the best time to hit the slopes because of milder conditions and a wider array of activities off piste.

For example, the Chamonix resort area boosts an ice rink, indoor swimming pool, indoor tennis courts, dog sleigh rides, an English cinema, and a bowling alley.  The mild conditions also make it the perfect time to explore the Chamonix resort by heading off on one of the many valley hiking trails or simply heading into the city to check out the active après ski activities.
