France is a great location for a school trip

If you are looking for a location to organise a school trip to then France is an ever popular destination. One of the best places to visit in the country on a school trip can be the French Alps as it is an area full of educational and entertainment opportunities.

There are some of the most interesting attractions in France in the area and there are also numerous opportunities for exerciser as skiing is very popular. A trip to the area can be easily organised by coach and accommodation can be found in the area with plenty of variety for different requirements.

There are a large number of small towns and villages in the area which have an extensive history and it can be a very educational experience to take schoolchildren here and let them learn a little about the history of France. Courcheval is a winter wonderland in the mountains

Courchevel has been one of the best ski resort in France for a long time and it is popular with people from all over Europe. The skiing in this part of France is second to none but it also has many apres ski activities for people to enjoy. There are exceptional restaurants in the area, great hotels and chalets as well as numerous bars.

There are many resorts at different heights in the area and all the way up the mountain you will find exceptional activities and places to eat when you are not spending time on the slopes.

One of the most popular areas is Le Praz which is located at 1300 metres above sea level. This is a town that has a great deal of history and its original features have been maintained while many restaurants and bars have been established. There are all different sorts of places here to suit a wide variety of budgets and there are plenty of bars for visitors to explore.

Many of the bars in the town will have live music on certain days and often sports will be shown in some of them if there are important matches going on. There is plenty of accommodation available in this part of the skiing area and there are many chalets that can be rented all year-round.

One of the best bars to visiting the area can be found just two minutes from the bottom of the ski lift and this is a bar that is very lively and always full. It is called Courchevel 1850 and the vast majority of the people who come to drink in the bar are going to be skiers or snowboarders. This is a bar where the entertainment never stops and it is going to be full every night as there is usually some sort of promotion is being run.

There are other notable bars which are more up-and-coming than the already well-established Courchevel 1850. The Bubble Bar as well as Funky Fox are also excellent and would be regarded as some of the best bars in the area.

Verbier is still one of the most recognisable names in skiing

It is not unusual to hear of a top ski resort transformed from just grazing land in less than a hundred years but Verbier has stood the test of time and is one of the most instantly recognizable names among skiers and snowboarders to this day. It is well known for its’ heli-skiing and challenging off-piste areas probably more than any other area in the Alps.

The après-ski and nightlife is just as well known. There are over a hundred bars and restaurants in the resort, catering to everyone’s tastes. Luxury chalets abound and now, because of the activities available there all year round it is now becoming popular for summer holidays as well.

Similarly, Courchevel has plenty of things to do for everyone apart from the skiing and snowboarding. This resort also came from being just a mountain village and farmland and the first hotel opened there in the small village of Saint Bon in 1925. This was at 1,100 metres but nowadays most of Courchevel’s luxury hotels can be found at the highest point of the resort, 1,850 metres.

There are gondola-lifts from 1,300 metres at the village of Le Praz and these take eight minutes to get to the luxury chalets and hotels of Courchevel. Altogether the resort has sixty-two chairlifts to get you back to the top to carry on skiing in as short a time as possible.

There are ski slopes to suit all levels of skier and snowboarder at Courchevel from lowly beginner to daredevil expert. The slopes are completely given over to winter sports and there are a hundred and fifty kilometres of downhill pistes which cover over a thousand acres of the mountains.

For those who are trying skiing for the first time ever, there are “Zen Zones” so that they can practice quietly without being disrupted by more experienced skiers. There are twenty-seven green runs and forty-four blue runs for novices and for the experts, thirty-eight red and ten black runs.

Morzine and Avioraz offer the best of the winter fun

Morzine is located not far from Avioraz, right in the middle of Portes du Soleil. All types of winter sports are available, for all levels of experience, such as skiing, snowboarding, telemark and cross-country. So you will easily be able to match something to your desires and abilities. Passes are available for either the whole Portes du Soleil area or just for Morzine/LesGets.

In the Morzine/Les Gets area there are 107 kilometres of slopes situated between a thousand and just over two thousand metres. The season runs from early December until the end of April. It is a good long season because of the Mont Blanc weather system, the amount of pasture beneath the slopes and the high-tech snow-making systems.

There are plenty of fine hotels in and around Morzine and also plenty of luxury ski chalets located in the centre. It is a good staging area for all the pistes in the Portes du Soleil. For the skilled skier there are 28 black runs and for beginners and cruisers there are plenty of nursery runs and blue and red slopes. Nearby, Avioraz has some of the best snowboarding facilities in Europe.

Verbier has on-piste ski areas amounting to over four hundred kilometres of runs covering the Four Valleys region. There are eighty-nine ski lifts which are all covered by a single pass. The off-piste skiing here is notorious and will obviously be a temptation to the experienced skiers although they will find that the black runs are challenging enough. There are excellent nursery slopes and red runs for beginners and some good red slopes for cruising.

Long snow season brings joy to thousands of skiers

Many areas in the Alps, as well as the Dolomites, are still open despite it being April as it seems the winter is continuing far beyond the normal season. Many skiers still in the region are finding there is still a lot of snow to enjoy and just recently over 20 centimetres of snow has fallen in the region. In the past week some areas have even been reporting over a metre of snow having fallen.

On the other side of the Atlantic in areas of the United States and Canada, the situation is very different and snow has stopped falling. This has meant that many areas have become very quiet as people are not being able to ski as much as they might like.

The end of the season in France is about to end and the last two resorts have said they are going to be closing their doors on 8 May. This is going to make France one of the only big skiing areas in the world that is not going to have its resorts open until May when the summer season of skiing begins.

Despite this early closing, France has had the most snow of anywhere in the world in the last week and a significantly above average amount of snow has been falling for this time of year. As well as impressive figures for the entire week, some days have seen snow fall of over 20 centimetres which has caused many powder alarms to be issued.

Even though new snow has fallen, the French resorts have largely said that they do not plan to change their end of the season dates and by 8 May all resorts in the area are going to be closed. Some resorts are already shutting down and most are going to be closing by 1 May at the latest. The only resort that is going to remain open is the Val Thorens and Tignes, which are going to be open for an additional week.

Les Menuires is the complete French ski resort

If you want a complete skiing holiday in the winter in France then you should consider heading to Les Menuires. This is a great resort area that has been operating since the early 1960s. This skiing resort is found is about 1800 metres above sea level and it offers a very distinctive skiing opportunity. There are numerous villages and resorts in the area and a huge number of ski runs for visitors to enjoy.

One of the most modern resorts in the area is near to St Martin de Belleville which is a particularly wonderful place to visit because the resort is next to an ancient 14th century village. This is a very small place with just over 3000 inhabitants but it does have a beautiful church that is worth visiting and even a small museum. It is also a great place to try some of the cheeses that the region is famous for.

This destination is particularly good for skiers who are of an intermediate level. There is not a lot available here for people who are just beginning, and also not very much to challenge experts. Once you have finished with a morning skiing session there are plenty of local restaurants and the surrounding area where you will be able to enjoy some lunch.

Another great location to head to is Les Battaix. This is another resort that surrounds a traditional village that since the 1990s has undergone a great deal of development. Once a quiet and largely un-touristy place, it is now full of bed-and-breakfast and small cottages where skiers can stay.

Despite all this commercial interest in the area, it does still retain the feeling of an authentic village as most of the chalets have been constructed out of traditional materials such as stone and wood.

Employee consortium aims to buy snowboard and ski centre in Gloucestershire

The owners of the snowboarding and skiing centre in Gloucestershire are currently considering a new bid which has been made by the employees of the company. The parent company of this group is Jupiter Hotels and they put the skiing centre up for sale around a month ago.

The parent company were not expecting the staff at the centre to make an offer to purchase it and after making an initial bid, it was rejected. The staff have however revised their bid and this is currently being considered by the parent company.

The staff at the centre of also started an Internet campaign which is encouraging local residents to back the bid that they have made for the centre. Since starting the site over 5000 people have signed up in order to make a public statement that they support the purchase of the facility by its staff.

The campaign is not just limited to the UK, and skiers from around the world have become involved in the matter and are wishing the staff the best of luck. The bid from the staff of the centre is regarded as particularly popular because the staff have already stated that they would want to make notable improvements to the skiing facility if their bid was chosen.

They said that in the first few weeks after purchase they would want to introduce new facilities in order to allow the slopes to run even during the summer. The staff have also said they want to see new activities brought into the centre such as tobogganing and grass sledging. All these are activities which can be done year round and will help improve profitability.
